Tuesday morning 4/17/2018 we flew out to Lihue, via Hawaiian Airlines. No frill, not much food. Thank goodness I packed a bunch of snacks. Kurt drove us to the airport at 6 am for our 8 am flight. There was plenty of guava juice. and Koloa Rum, yum. We stopped at shrimp station for garlic shrimp. Too expensive. THERE ARE CHICKENS ALL OVER THE ISLAND !!!!
I mean everywhere. At the airport, at the restaurant, on the side of the road, crossing the road...... Since our room was not ready yet, we went out to Kilauea Light house for a look see. Weather was warm, but road side muddy. They did have 28 inches of rain in 24 hours on Sunday in Hanalei, and the road to Haena was closed due to land slide. We saw nene's and Shearwater birds of the Wildlife Refuge at Kilauea Point. In Princeville, we found Pali Ke Kua condo that we stayed at when we honeymooned here. After checking out Hideaway, muddy water, we had a shaved ice at Jojo's.
Then if was off to our room at Castle Mokihana, the new name is ISO Kapaa. We had room 322. It was third floor walkup, but very nice and 325 is absolutely ocean front, so it was a great ocean view, albeit a very muddy view.
Next morning it was yoga with Kore Ann, then breakkie, continental breakfast in which they ran out of coffee. We asked for coffee packet, and the mean lady said it was a dollar each. We were astonished. Since it was cloudy, we decided to drive to Poipu, and to see the blowhole. Well they fenced the blow hole in, as I guess people were getting hurt. We also tried to find where we bought the chicken feet wallet, no go. We had lunch at Gina Anykine Grinds, and the food was GOOD. We found sun at McArthur park, a little park by Kekaha. Then if was off to Waimea Canyon. We found a little water fall on the side of the red rocks. The end of the road can see the falls way in the distant. It was too far to hike, as it was getting late, so we only hiked to the lookout, not to the top of the falls.
Next day, we decided to go hike and ended up at Makauwahi cave. Well, the cave was not open on Thursday, but we found all these tortoises, as there was a tortoise reserve, and what a find !!!! Nowhere did we see tortoises being mentioned. The cave was a lime stone cave. Off to lunch at Da Crack. Then to Kauai Coffee Company, where we drank a lot lot of coffee. On the way back home, we drove by Menehune Fish Pond to Linue. We saw where they dock the cruise ship, and the Linue Bay.
We decided to go to Princeville, and climbed down the ropes to the beach. It had rained the day before so it was pretty slippery. Little did we know that it would be way muddier at Wailua Falls.
We went snorkeling and on the way back we had food at this taco truck by Kapaa, we were going to eat at the Porky Pig but they were not open. Then we went on a LONG bike ride The Ke Ala Hele Makalae. What a great ride, via the hotel bikes.
