Our Anza Borrego Trip

So Tuesday dawns and we are going out.  We left about 8 am via 405 to 5 to 78, passing Ramona and the Demler Brothers egg ranch.  We also saw bunch of camels at Bellena Farm.  We stopped in Julian for some pies and food.  Found out that they also cannot serve food , but can only take out.  It was raining lightly, and cold.

We got to Anza Borrego and it was not quite sunny but not raining and 65 or so.  Instead of checking into the hotel, we decided to go to Coyote Canyon.  Gracie had a great time getting the rocks.  So much so that her paws got raw.  Some ocotillos and cacti were blooming.  Not as much as last year.

At the end of coyote canyon, we decided to keep Gracie in the car and tried to climb up to the palm grotto.  We got almost there, as the trails were not marked and a LOT of boulder hopping.  I forgot my meds so I as a bit dizzy too.  I got to the first palm and quit, and KR got to the second palm and came down.  There was a lot of water, and the water was cold and cold.

The hike up took about 30 minutes, so prolly would have taken about 45 minutes to the palms, and we drove back down to check into the hotel.

There were four people in line trying to check in so it took awhile.  We also got a free 2 drink coupon.  KR had a beer and I had an OJ.  Room B116 was very nice and very big.  We had take out tacos and then went to the jacuzzi.  There were hardly any one there, and Marilyn, the receptionist said that so many people have canceled.

We went to bed after listening to a sermon.

I COULD NOT SLEEP, maybe from Klonipin withdraw, I finally got up and took .25 and fell asleep pretty quickly.

THE NEXT MORING Wednesday

It was raining, so we drove over to the visitor center about 8.. NO ONE AROUND.  Visitor center closed.  We drove to the camp sites, and there were maybe a couple of dozen RV's and even a few hardy souls with tents out at the camp site.  We didnt see any pup fish, so we drove back to the hotel.  KR had the two left over tacos for brekkie and we packed up and drove to Butler Canyon,

What a canyon.

We had to go past Clark Lake which is normally dry but because of the rain, was pretty full of water.  Probably just knee deep but it was cold and beautiful.  We then went past Peace House, up to Butler canyon.  We saw ONE truck out there.  And then we had to turn around, the rocks were just large and we are not sure we had the clearance.  So we tried Rockhouse canyon, and was also defeated !!!  On the way down we went to check out Peace House, which is a tiny stone building that someone had cleaned up and had a little cot and pillows, and a guest book and some candles.  Really neat.  We left a roll of dental floss.  I left a note in the Peace House.

We went back up to Coyote Canyon so Gracie can play.  It was raining and cold.  She didnt want to leave but was shivering bad and had bloody paw (s) from getting the rocks.  We drove down to Julina thinking there might be snow.  YUP, there was about 2 in on the ground, so there was a lot more earlier.  We got two pies, as they were so good yesterday, rhubarb and apple.

We drove home via 5, and the traffic !!  THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC at 5 pm.  I guess everyone is working from home, or not working.

This Coronavirus thing is so weird.  All schools closed, and some closed to end of the semester.  Mike Gooch said Harvard and a bunch of other schools are canceling GRADUATION!!!!  I guess if I was a senior at Harvard, I would want a graduation.  All restaurants cannot serve food but can have takeout.  On the way home, we got a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but they would not let us use the restroom.  I had to go to Walmart.

The grocery stores here have very little bread, eggs, NO TOILET PAPER, which I just don't understand what that is all about.  Why hoard TP????  And bottle water????  Just drink out of the tap.  We went to bed after listening to Mike Djane's livestream cast.
