Saturday

This is the last of this month, and we are leaving tomorrow.  KR ate a quick breakfast, but the tide is at 12 so the surf is pretty dismal.  Between the two of us, we drank a pot of coffee.  Since surf was not up yet, we drove to the bikini place up the road and I bought two bottoms, 10 bucks each.  The lady makes all these suits and sale them in her little work room/store, while her house is in the back.  The suits were like 24 dollars each piece, and too expensive for me, so I just bought something in the sale bin, and I really like them.

Then it was a run for me, from this end to the river mouth.  I found the little walk in area that you can access the road to Hotel Bula Bula, between the blacken trees.  The tide was still low, and there were people crossing, but no surf.  I was pretty hot getting back.  I ordered breakfast, eggs, toast, coffee, rice and beans.  I was not too hungry, and KR ate part of it.  He went out some more, and then we went to La Marejada, he had seared ahi salad and two fish tacos.  I fed a piece to the local jay, looks like our jay except there is a little or two little feathers on top of its head like a quail.

Then we went back to check the surf this girl comes in all bleeding.  She is down here with her fiance and the surf board hit her in the lip.  There was a bit of bleeding.  They were staying at Las Tortugas, and we helped them up.  Got a towel and cleaned her up, she had split her lower lip across the vermillion border and will probably need a few stitches.  The hotel called a taxi and off they went.  KR wiped her face clean and took a look, no teeth damage, thank goodness.  They were from England and here for a month.  How do people have that much time and money to do that????

Since the surf was so small, I had KR take me out, and i caught a few waves, only stood up maybe twice, and had enough.  He went out some more, and we came back to shower.  After watching the sunset and texting Kurt and Diane, we went to Mamasa for dinner.  We were the only ones there, and the food was really really good.  Jamie is from Connetica and is only here a few months out of the year.   We are trying to decide when to leave, as the tide will be high about 12 30 pm, so KR won't be surfing tomorrow.  We sold our boards to Marco next door for 350 US dollars.  At least we don't have to pay to transport them back.

Off to bed

Friday

So since we forgot to tell Gail that we were staying, we lost our room and had to move to Playa Grande Inn next door, where it is 68 bucks including breakfast.  KR got up early, again, and I barely slept in til 7 30.  I had a much better night sleep, i think the weather is great for my sinus, no more hacking, blowing, and sneezing.  He ordered an egg sandwich and had breakfast before his surf session.  I ran towards the north part of town, cross the first set of rocks, and crossed the second set of rocks, but I did not go to the cove, then I ran towards the river mouth, towards Tamarindo.  I was so tired, but just between station 20 and 21, I saw two turtle tracks, looks like they came in and laid eggs last night.

By the time I got back, my back was killing me, and I had to go up and take some aleve or something.  KR came in for a bit and went back out  I slept a little on the beach, listened to my book on tape on my phone and then came in and moved.  We had room 7 at the El Marejada, and room 3 at the PGI.  The room is smaller there, and there is no dinner, and out of 8 rooms, I think only three are rented.  The guy that works there, Javiar, and his gf, and baby occupies one of the rooms too.

After lunch of salami and cheese and watermelon, and crackers, we decided to check out the bikini place up the street.  I also fed the dog, Cali, a bunch of salami.  The store was full of bikinis but closed, so we drove to the river mouth and finally found a place to cross.  KR swam across and I could have too, had I known, I took the little boat.  We walked around Tamarindo, had a smoothie and the waded back.  The water was only up to our thighs, and could have saved the first dollar.  We saw a bunch of live sand dollars, and finally drove home.

I was pretty tired, and we watched the sunset again, on the beach and headed to (what is the name of the restaurant?) for Italian dinner.  It was great.  I fed the poodle there some of our food.  We had tenderloin, and linguini with vodka and bacon, then ice cream.  All was very tasty.  Tomorrow we are trying Mamasa, they only serve dinner Wednesday and Saturday, and all other days, breakfast.

Today is mom's 84 birthday.  After dinner, we called her and wish her a happy b day.  Alan was there fixing the water heater hose.  He said he also fixed the bedroom light, as it just quit working.  I tried calling but he is no where to be found.  Our wifi is no good so I had to come back to the El Marajeda to log in and type and call.  Will try again before I head to bed.

Finally got a hold of Alan.  He was in the shower.  Told him Ed had called but he did not hear the answer machine, nor did he try to play back the answer machine, as I had asked him, just in case that I could not get a hold of him and left a msg.  For some reason I cannot send any text to KR's phone, just Kurt's.  He said something about mom confusing what Auntie Mary had told him so he had to change the caregiver schedule, Julie from 2 30 to 3 30.  Told him that the company Julie works for does not like that, guess I had not thought of that contingency.  The hotel is pretty empty, with only three rooms rented, I think.  Javiar and Fria were here, while the owners took some trip somewhere.

Thursday

Had such a bad night sleep, with my coughing and sinus issues, and the electricity went out in the middle of the night.  I had the A/C on most night, til KR thought it was too cold and turned it off.  He got up early for a surf session and I slept in, kind of.  Drank four cups of coffee for breakfast and went on a walk/run to the river mouth.  It was pretty hot already at 9 am.  Today's high was 90 and tomorrow will be about the same with the low about 75.  VERY warm.  I had a couple of bananas and brought two for KR so he can eat and go back to surf.  He finally came in at about noon, and we drove to the supermarket and bought a whole chicken, some bread, soda, and 2 apples.  Everyone here use the dollars, too.  You just pay in dollars and they will give you colones back.  What a country.

After lunch, of whole chicken, Costco style, at the hotel upstairs, we took a nice long nap.  Then we walked to the turtle preserve, except they were just closing, and the tours are full tonight and tomorrow, so we don't think we will be watching the turtles any time soon.  We sat and watched the sunset.  Oh, wait, we walked to the rocks to the north of the beach and there were lots of fishes stuck in tide pools, and KR found one of those that sit on the rock outside the water, like what we saw in Nicaragua years ago.  Kurt said that they didn't leave til about 1 30 pm, as Bobs didn't start packing til that morning.  hahaha

Dinner was downstairs at the El Marejada.  Gail told us that we have to move tomorrow as we did not tell her that we were staying more than 2 nights, I forgot, and she is sold out for the weekend. Oh well.  We looked at Playa Grande Inn next door and will move there.  We decided to do the Salvatura Canope Tour on Monday morning, so we will drive out there after Sunday's session and then tour Monday and then the coffee plantation tour Monday afternoon, and drive into San Jose early Tuesday morning.  Each segment will probably take us about 3 hours.

Our time here is interesting, slow, nothing moves too fast,  and it is hot.  But I did not get sunburnt, even used the 30 sunscreen all over me.  We also stopped at the farmacia for some codeine pills and detromethorphan for my sinus.  The Costa Rica version tastes nasty, and I have not tried the codeine pills.  Total cost was very expensive, about 20 dollars.  The groceries costs about 20 today too.  We will try to minimize our expenses as our cash is running low.

KR had a great surf session today.  It was pretty good shape, and the high tide was about 9, and hope tomorrow the same.

Wednesday

We were so tired.  The first class seat was great, and the food was out of this world, this incredible beef roast/stew, a large chunk with mashed potatoes, but I was so tired.  I think i have a cold too, with nasal congestion.  Flight landed in San Jose on time.  We took the shuttle to Budget rental.  The guy tried to sell us 19.99 per day insurance and I told him no and he got really huffy.. That would have brought the rental car up to about 300 dollars, we did upgrade to a little larger car.

KR tied the boards in the bag on the top with soft rack, and it was so heavy that the roof started bending, and snapping.  We stopped and took the boards out of the bag and just placed the boards on the top without the bag.  Much better.  The drive took FOREVER !!!!!!!!!  We stopped and got some chicken wings, and coke, and then at Burger King, and finally got to Playa Grande about 2 PM, SIX HOURS LATER !!!

We went down to the water and swam.  La Marajeda, the wave, is a lovely hotel.  We have room 7.  One queen bed with A/C, 70 bucks per night.  NO breakfast.  We might move to Playa Grande Inn, next door, that we stayed at 10 years ago.  68 with breakfast.  We walked around a bit, tried to take a nap, then went to Rip Jack Inn for dinner.  60 dollars later, we were very full, and the food was great.  The warm seared ahi salad was actually very very good.  We were so tired, went to bed at 7.

The surf looks like it is picking up tomorrow, so KR is jacked and primed to start !!!!!

Tuesday

How to run around like a chicken without a head?

Work was ok, the first patient did not have a palate issue, she burnt it with some food, yikes.  The second patient was a transfer from Kit across the hall, they don't take her insurance anymore.

Go home, ride bike back to office drop off KR's sandwich and post card stamps, and come home.  Go to library to get books on Costa Rica, and go to West LA Federal Building.  THEY HAD MY passport early, 1 30.

Drive home, stop at Costco Inglewood and got gas and some food, chicken and pizza so we can have dinner.  Run around like a mad dog, pack, tried to take a nap, too tired, but could not sleep

KR comes we pack, go to grandma's for dinner, Kurt was at Bobby's doing his project.  HE GOES ON A WALK WITH DAD  wowowowowow

Monday January 26, 2015

I couldn't sleep, was afraid of missing my alarm so kept getting up and looking at the clock.  Left the house for the Federal Building at 11000 Wilshire.  The traffic was pretty heavy at 6 AM, where are all them people going?

Got there and didn't know where to line up.  There was one line to get a number to line up, then another line to get into the building.  Being a federal building you have to practically take everything off and go through the metal detector.

Inside there is another line to get a number to wait, and she did not like my "homemade" photos so she sent me outside, and I paid FOURTEEN BUCKS for another set of photos, and waited more.  I think since we are flying tomorrow, the number of the ticket starts with A, the folks that are flying later (but no later than 2 weeks) are given a ticket number starting with C.  I paid 170 bucks, yikes, and was told to come back tomorrow after 2.

Drove home, stopped at 99 cent store, and then to work.  Dropped off books on tape at library, went to Joann's to return stuff, and buy stuff for KR and use COUPON !!!!  Started RAINING!!!!!!!

I would love a job in which my guesses would be 75 % incorrect and still get to keep my job.

Walked the dog before library, and she is so cute and sweet.  I love my Graciel

Kurt had one final today, said it went well.  He finally finished his math homework of last week.

Packed some more, cooked dinner, KR came home and ate, but still raining so we did not walk the dog.

Sunday

I think this daily journal thing is going to be a bit hard.  It is already Monday night and I finally remembered that I forgot !!  A sure sign of old age

What did happen yesterday?

Getting ready for our trip?  Yup, cooked a yummy breakkie for my sweetie, spinach, steak, chicken, onion, eggs scramble with country potatoes, and sweet blintz, which he was not too keen but hey, I cooked it.

We walk the dog at the post office and it must have been 80 degrees.  Says suppose to rain Tuesday, now down grade to just cloudy.

I cooked dinner, some of Black Bear's left over of salmon.  KR picked up mom and dad and we ate here, as we just went out to the Hut for lunch yesterday, and did not feel like going out.  '

We even went to the pool at NH, and I felt asleep, then a little jacuzzi.

Just before I went to bed, realized I did not print the passport picture.  Got them printed and went to bed.  Set the alarm for 5 40 AMMMMMMMMM

Saturday

It was beautiful and sunny today, up to 81 degrees !!!!!  The big news, I realized last night that MY PASSPORT has expired.  What a knucklehead, for not watching that the thing expired on November 14, 2014.  So I panicked and called the state department and will be traveling to Wilshire on Monday to get a renewal, and lots of money.  That is the part I hate !!!!

Kurt has work and I didn't wake him up and he says WHY DIDN"T YOU WAKE ME, which started another tiff.  He called a sub last night so he can do his math, but I guess could not find one for the day.  I go buy chicken food, and then the 99 cent store and Boon comes over trying to help me decide what to do with the remodel of downstairs.  He has some great ideas.  KR comes home and we all go to Hof's Hut for mom's birthday.  She can really eat.

Walking the dog on the fire trail is always a treat.  The view was great, and she was really HOT.  Went to JoAnn's to buy elastic to fix pants and rode my bike to church.  Pastor Henry had to tell everyone that Marc Estes decided not to be our head pastor.  What a terrible time.  He said he felt that the elders were not giving him 100 %.  Jeez

Dinner was tacos and not it is 9 already and the kitchen is still messy.

Friday

So I have to work and as usual, Kurt won't get out of bed and says he is not going to school and that his carpool can get herself to school, so I left.  KR was at the office and I told him and he calls and Kurt says he is on his way and Mia is in the car with him.  No surf so KR takes the dog for a walk.  I get home, starving, and eats.  Only had 3 patients but I did a bunch of paperwork, removing the billings from 2009, etc.  When Kurt came home, we laid down the law and said he was not going to Mammoth, nor Costa Rica, just staying home with Alan would be good.  If he cannot act like an adult, he will not be treated like an adult.

  • computer is to be on the dining room or kitchen table
  • disable F/B for at least a week
  • phone on counter as soon as he gets home
  • math done one day before due
  • bedtime 11, meaning lights out, so 10 30 start shutting down
  • chores done without complaint
  • transcript done as soon as possible
  • room needs to be neater
  • ALL homework on time, not late, no extensions
  • respond to emails on time
  • get scholarships, like Hickory
So, is he able?  Who knows, just that his math from Friday is not done yet and it was assigned over three weeks ago.

So KR and I went to Black Bear Diner, and it was very delicious.  He had New York, and I had the tri-tip platter.  Kurt actually did hours of homework, but still was not done.

Thursday

Couldn't get out of bed, neither can Kurt, and he rolls out at 7 15, even later than yesterday, but hey, he had the audacity to ask if he can take a shower, yeah, right.  We will see if he attends Improv today.  Has lots of homework due but is watching Community.  Do all teenage boys get senioritis that bad?  Spent a bit of time with Lani and mom and dad to see what the issue is with dad.  He seems to be getting diarrhea again.  Is it the smoothie that I made yesterday?  With bunches of kale?  It is so hard to take care of him, and getting the caregivers to do the right thing, like getting him to practice buttoning his shirt, etc.

Walking Gracie is always interesting, never know if we are to encounter the S thing.  Can't say the squirrel word or else she goes crazy.

Dropped off a bunch of electronic recycling at Salvation Army, plus the trumpet.  Yup, never did play it, oh well.  Worked on Chris, crown #3.  At least he was not late.  Bladder infection today, yikes.  Have not had one for at least 5 years, felt terrible and gotta pee all the time.  Drank a lot of water.  Finished cleaning the bathroom cabinet.  Looks so nice now without all the clutter.  Made a bunch of burgers and Kurt ate them.  Weather about 70, and mild.

Wednesday

So it is cleaning lady day.  Kurt does not get out of be til late, and is not showering which he thinks is an abomination, but hey, when you don't role out til 7 15 and have to be out of door by 7 30 it is a little hard to squeeze in a 10 min shower. So he is grouchy.  Seems to be the mood of the week, month, year !!!!  So after Mee Chin gets here, I work on VA stuff, RightSource stuff for mom and dad and before you know it it is time to walk sweet Gracie, work.  Chris had called, his insurance is running out and he NEEDS to be seen.  We set appt for 1 30 but he is 20 minute late.  Can you tell your expastor that my time is valuable?  I think he is selling insurance.  Come home and drive Mee Chin home, Kurt is already in SOL class.  Cook dinner but they eat Kurt's lunch delivery Domino pizza.  I work out at the Y thinking that i should try the MOSSA class, but too much lower back work, think I won't like it....  zzzzz early

Tuesday

Think I will try to do this like a diary, so that years later, I can chuckle at the obsurdity of it all. HAHAHA

Kurt says that only old folks say hahaha, his gen, it is LOL, but that is so weird.

Tuesday morning shines with fog, and Kurt goes back to school, he had yesterday MLK day off.  Speaking of MLK, I don't know why the blacks don't raise their outraged voices at the way the MLK's children are fighting in court to sell of his NOBEL PEACE prize, you gotta be kidding me, the great man's legacy and his child wants to SELL IT?  Where is Al's voice, where is Jesse's rant?  Well, I am ranting, it is outrage.

So, the college app thing is over, and I am afraid that he will get into NO SCHOOL, worth going, but hey, it is his life, except it is my wallet.

Had to work on Ryan Trinh yesterday, and Alan got a tooth filled and his teeth cleaned.  He arrived Saturday night, but I sure miss Lovely, and she better come in June.

I spent the whole morning cleanning the bathroom, emptying all the drawers.  They really needed some straightening, wiped the bottoms and sorted thru everything.  THERE IS TOO MUCH STUFF HERE.  If I ever want to start the remodel downstairs, need to get rid of stuff.  Worked on Joe, and came back and finished part of the closet.  Alan went down to San Diego to stay with his mom last night.  It is Alden's birthday today, and they went over to celebrate today.

Only one brown and one green egg today.  Vulchi will be 3 on May 4th.  She is so sweet, and so are Henny and Penny.

We have about 1400 active patients total, and are working on selling the practice !!!!  Gotta retire and go travel.

Kurt is kind of weird today, started furiously cleaning his room, ridding the paper log jam, then all of a sudden stopped.  He still has not sent the transcripts, and spent most of the night in his room on the bed watching videos on the computer.  What am i to do with this boy?????

Rental Car  vacation next week to COSTA RICA, yippppppeeeeeeeeeeee

The New Year 2015

So the new year started, and it promises to be an interesting one.  Last year went out with a whimper, as we stayed home waiting for Kurt to finish his college apps.  He is not done.  But hey, we have been saying, it is his life, and he shall live it, we just have to pay, right?  The ED was MIT and Case, and he was rejected from MIT.  Got a good scholarship from Case.  Was I disappointed?  You bet, I was.  The kid is absolutely MIT material, but how can one send an essay in the day it was written, and the way I thought it, the first write was the last write was the only write.  No one had a chance to look, as he was not done til the last second.  It was a very stressful day.  He took lots of meds and was in his room for hours typing away, and was about 20 minutes late sending the app.

oy vey

Then the UC apps were due.  He did not send it in the last minute, but maybe the last hour.  November 1 came and went.  So now the rest are due and he is still working on TWO MORE !!!!  Aren't you tired of looking at these?  What about just getting them out?  Well, no, so we are just goofing up stairs and Tinder app has him just all kookoo!!!
