December 9, Sunday

Must keep up
Must keep up
Must keep up

Well, maybe must not

So I get up early, KR sleeps in a little.  He went to Dave and Buster to see the fight last night and got back later than usual.  He maybe went to bed at 10 30 while I was in bed by 8 00.  Kurt went with him.  Yesterday, Saturday,Kurt worked as SANTA, yup, for Nancy Lim with Corrina as his elf.  At Color Me Mine, Nancy's store.  Made 90 dollars.  Needs another job like that.  Then they went to the movie, with tickets courtesy of good old mom.  KR and I went to church, and I felt ill.  Had to come home early.  About 6 pm, I started getting dizzy, felt funny and my eyeballs felt like they were full.  Yup, not just full of eye balls, but kind of like they were popping out or something.  So we came home and I went to bed.  Kurt and Carina had came home and were watching another movie downstairs in the bedroom.  KR made guac.  Delish.

Today is Sunday and Kurt went to COTB, while KR went to Bruce's to adjust his fluoride guard.  I went to mom's and did some cleaning in the garage and tried to pick up my bathing suit at Target, I bought a new top, but turns out the item was shipped to the CARSON STORE.  What a dope.

NOT DECEMBER ALREADY

Well, I think I should keep a daily journal just to keep track of my pains.

Where to begin

Last Monday I went to yoga, and I think, I don't know, soon after my right knee felt like someone was sticking me with a hot pin or a skewer.  I cannot put any weight on it at all, without using a donut like thing to take the pressure off.  What is up with that????  So the whole week, as today is Tuesday 8 days later, I can put a little weight on it but wait.

Today, Tuesday, December 4, I was outside about 7 30 to give the chickens a little food, my left intercostal muscle about three ribs up from the bottom near the left side goes out.  GOES OUT and the pain.  I do nothing for a few hours, and try hot and cold and the pain is a little better.  What is up with that?  The chicken food weighs no more than 2 pounds.  What do I have to do now, to be very careful every morning or just all the time??????

So I have to work this afternoon and work on Thursday and what to do, just do nothing !!!!!!

Cannot do pullups,

Def Leppard / Journey

KR went to the Ranch with the high school buddies and came back early enough for us to go to the Forum concert of Def Leppard and Journey.  We gave blood to get these tickets.  Yup, every year KLOS has a blood drive and we go so we can get free food and then concert tickets.  In the past years, you can get Wax Museum tickets but that did not happen the last few years.

At the concert, we saw ERIC AND GIGI !!!!!!

YUP, cannot believe it, and they were pleasant about seeing us.  Except, Gigi looks like she had so much stuff done, I didn't even recognize her.  I guess if you have the money, why not.

Trip to Lake Tahoe

So a week after the return from Yosemite, we drive up to Tahoe to spend some time with Bob and Diane.  We had planned this trip months ago, and with my back in rather precarious position, we went anyway.

Driving up September 19, Wednesday, we stayed at the same place in Fresno, Best Western.  We stopped at Folsom Lake, and Placerville, got rerouted off of Hwy 50 due to fire off of Pleasant Valley Road, and found a bunch of wineries and we tried a bunch of wines.  Finally got to Tahoe by 6 pm.  Then on Saturday morning, my back seized again, and I found an acupuncturist on the north shore, who was actually open on Saturday.  No one is open on the weekend after labor day.  KR proceeds to drink himself to a full drunk and I drove myself.  It was so weird, and difficult day.

After the session, Eric and Jen came back from their overnight hike, with Amelia.  We had dinner while KR slept away.

Sunday morning we drove out early to Mono Lake, and I floated.  Gracie cut her paws up pretty bad so we had to put her in the car.  Then we drove home, stopping at Manzanar on the way.  We found a hot spring on the side of 395 and it was a great soak.  KR didn't want to swim in Mono too much, maybe from yesterday's binge.   But the soak off 395 was great, pretty warm, maybe about 95F???

My back is pretty good for a few weeks.  Must rest up so that my Iraq trip goes without a hitch.

September 25 I went and saw MD at Beach City and PT with chiropractor, Dr Shafer.  HE WAS GREAT.

Doug and Shirley spent a few days at mom's.  Glad we were able to offer them a place while Shirley waits for her shoulder to heal and REDO the replacement surgery.

YOSEMITE

I guess I started this and never even got a word in.

Oh how time flies.

The blogs I follow, I always feel like the blogger is not writing often enough, guess as no one follows mine, that does not matter, but I also feel like I am not writing often nor long enough, like Lovely is able to do.

In order to recap Yosemite, I have to go back in the photos and remind myself what happened.

September 6, Thursday, we drive up to Yosemite, stopping at Best Western Village Inn just outside Fresno.  Early on the 7th, we reach the gate at Yosemite at 8 30 am.  Coming to the view of half dome at 9 30 was awesome.  We get our permit at the wilderness center and the plan is to spend the night at the tent village, formerly Curry, and hike up to LYV with our pack and overnight, then do HALF DOME on Sunday, spend the night, and hike down Monday, on the way to Mono Lake.

WELL, that was wishful thinking.

We see a lynx, or something like that by the Wilderness center.

We get our bicycle out and ride about 15 miles.  Maybe it was a little too much.

KR swims in the Merced.   A bit cold for me.

So 10 am we start on Mist Trail, with a full pack for both of us.  4.3 to LYV, 8.2 to Half Dome.We arrive at camp about 2 15 and set up, then went for a swim at the river.  Dinner was freeze dried food.  Next morning on my way back from the log, after a long night of cold sleeping on the ground in the tent, my back tweaks a little.  OH BOY OH BOY

We hike up HALF DOME and what a hike......   gnarly, cable, gloves, oh my  We hike all the way down and sees this long long rattle snake.  While resting at camp, a giant tree falls over no more than 50 feet from us.  THANKFULLY the other way it falls.

THEN IT HAPPENED.....

I leaned over to pull the pack out, and my back seized, completely, unable to stand up, and move and all.......    I call 911 and got rescued down the mountain, by the very best of Yosemite Search and Rescue.

End of August (already)

Last post was National Night out, which was the first week of August, and now it is the 27th already.  I am getting ready to pick up KR at the airport.   Trying to figure out what has been happening will be a herculean effort on my part, but here goes, WITH HELP OF PHOTOS.....

On August 9, KR Alan and Tiffany and Norm goes and plays golf at Trump National Golf Club, and they had a marvelous time.  One hundred 50 big ones per person, and of course TIFF did not let KR nor Alan pay.  oh wow

The 10th, August, Friday, Taylor Dillon brings Taquito, the rooster she rescued over, and he lasts only a day so Saturday he goes away.  Crows too much.  So cute a rooster, and very very friendly.

And that night, we go out with the old gang from office.  Penny, Karen, Debbie, Darlene, Andrea, baby and husband.  We had a great time drinking and eating at El Torito.

Saturday morning, Lovely and I run the Hills are Alive race, and I am just gasping for breath.  She beats me.  On the 15th, we go see Auntie Mary.  She is in a lot of pain all the time, from her hips and knees, etc so she can hardly get out.  Just feel so bad for her.  Ricky comes two to three times a week to help.

On the 17th, we go see the gravestone, and mom seems to like the one I made.  I think her dementia is making her not so sad about dad passing.

Saturday the 18th, was the BIG Samoan party in Long Beach.  There were plenty of food and we brought some home.  YUM.

19TH   THEY ALL WENT BACK TO TAIWAN !!!!!!!  Lovely, MOM, Abby and Isaiah boarded the flight and left.

Then Nina comes to visit, but she cannot stay at Grandma's as Doug and Shirley came to stay for a couple of weeks.  Shirley is recuperating from her shoulder RESURGERY.  Evidently the first surgery the ball and socket did not take and got all infected.  So Nina stayed here and visited her dad everyday.  Alan comes back and WE DEPART FOR YOSEMITE !!!!!!!!!!!!

National Night Out

So today, August 7, is national night out at Hickory Park.  We all went, even Will.  We all got to the park about 6 pm and I had cooked corn beef and cabbage, and I went and got two pies from Marie Callender, strawberry and rhubarb, and lemonade KR made.  We had a great time.  Will even borrowed Mr. Kaplan's car for tomorrow.

So Will's car died, again, last Saturday.  Had it towed to Mikes' at Independent Honda.  Turns out to be the fuse box?  Next to the battery?  Maybe from when he had his car washed?  So he has been here for a few days.  He is a little better now, and helped cleaned the house.  Some.

Lori Malinbaum is selling her practice.  She called me last week saying Chanel is offering her more money than she thinks the office is worth and she is bailing.  What am I going to do with my patients?  I don't have that many, but geez, I don't want to take them elsewhere.  KR and I were thinking about where to take them.

Yesterday I worked my last Monday.  Next week I will be working on Thursdays, at the clinic SBCDC, and 7 am to 1 pm.  OH MY, so early.  It is ok now, but in the winter, oh my, will be DARK DARK DARK when I get there.

Lovely came back Sunday night, and went to Newport to hang with Judy and kids, and Kurt went with them.  Will didn't wanna go.  They even took mom.  She also went into the ocean up to her knees.

KR leaves next week for Puerto Escondido.

I am confirmed on the trip to Iraq, I believe it is 10/12 to 10/28.  Oh, my.......

New Refrigerator

So our neighbor Rocky and Grace sold Grace's house on Ave E and last weekend they had a garage sale, I went to look.  Grace had remodeled the house and wanted to GIVE to her son, who said no.  I don't understand what the relationship is but it is a beautiful house and he and his wife says no.  So they sold it for one and a half million dollars.

Grace had bought an LG frig, with InstaView and she wanted to get rid of it so she says she will sell it to me cheap.  Today, Thursday, August 2, the boys (Will, Kurt and KR) brought the frig here.

Back up a bit.

Last Saturday Harbor Rock had an open house.  We went to look and to have a hot dog or two.  We brought mom, and me and KR and Kurt had a pretty good time.  There are three residents, and they can handle four.  Brendan Baltimore is the manager.  So when we found out we were going to buy the frig, we asked Brendan if they can use the frig, and he said yes.

This morning KR and Will goes to the Sepulveda House and borrow Brendan's trailer, and went to Rocky's for the piano.  Yes, a Samick Piano that Grace sold to Will for 100 dollars.  And the refrigerator, and the round table and the television stand.  All got loaded here.  We transferred the two and KR and Will took the frig over to the Rock.  The piano is at mom's as there is no other space for it.  Maybe Lovely will help me figure out where to put it.

Yesterday we met mom at Bartlett Senior Center.  Marilou had to go to immigration for a photo or something.  We had a pretty good lunch.  Then KR took mom home and I went swimming.  I have been swimming a bit at the pool at NH.  And I am getting DARK !!!!

Kurt has been working at mom's and complaining ad nauseam.  Says he puts in all his time at grandma's and has no time for anything.  Wanted to tell him well , get another job and or add another class.  He is taking ONE class in the fall at ElCo something to do with psychology and working no more than 24 hours at Office Depot.  What a schedule.  We keep asking him to do more, or pay more rent.  What is it going to take for this kid to get on the program????

Kurt had work today, then went to Grandma's where she was digging poop, again, and they (KR and Kurt) got so mad at her yelling at her to stop.  And now he is out with Pooj, or Yujin, the girl he knows from Cal.  She needs a green card, by the way.

End of July

So the Fourth has come and gone.  Lovely has arrived with the gang.  Three weeks have gone by.  On July 2, I went rock climbing at the Y and my right middle finger has not been right since.  Can't believe what happened.  NOTHING but my middle joint of the finger is swollen, like arthritis.  I make nine jars of stewed tomatoes.  Can't remember where I got the tomatoes from, maybe Farmers Market.

Mom arrives with Lovely and gang on Thursday night.  In the middle of the night, she would not listen to Lovely and kept on getting up and walking around, and finally trips over Isaiah and had a great big fall.  I go over the morning as Lovely left for San Diego early, and CANNOT get mom up.  I cannot figure out what is happening and finally call Lovely and she tells me mom tripped.  Lovely was coming down with the flu so was not too clear as to what was happening, and was not communicating and I had no idea.  Took us over half an hour with new caregiver Marilou to get mom up, and she keeps complaining that everything hurts especially her back.

Guess I don't have to worry about her wondering about and getting away from us and getting lost.

Friday I take mom to x ray to make sure she didn't break her hip.  She didn't .  But still in a lot of pain.

Saturday morning July 7 and we don't know if we are going to McKenna and Andrew wedding.  Mom takes some pain pill, and we drive down.  Will and Kurt and mom and KR and me all together in KR's car, as we were bringing the wheel chair and golf clubs.  Yup, Alan forgot the clubs and is in need.  Did I mention the weekend of the 7/8 was the HOTTEST IN THE LAST 50 YEARS IN ALL OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA????????

So we get there to the park, and it is hot.  The cement benches under the trees where the reception was were hot.  It was so hot that half of the icing on the cake slid off the cake.  The ants came and got to some of the cupcakes/cake.  The dinner was tacos from a taco cart, and plenty of cold drinks.  Alan officiated the wedding and does a great job.  Lovely is sill sick, and now not the flu but a cold.

We have reservation at the Super 8 in Escondido for Saturday night.  What a dump.

Sunday morning we go and get gas and then go to Bea and Ethel house to visit.  KR swims with Alan and Will.  I go get In n Out burgers.  We drop KR off at camp, in Vista.  He then gets dropped off at home.  Guess he did not read his email right.  He is suppose to help with check in at Royal Family Camp Monday morning, so they needed him.

Monday morning he goes to church, while I go to work, and Marilou goes to see mom.  I went to church to pick up the car as KR was going to ride his bike, but mom could not get out of bed so much pain, he went to help Marilou get her up.  Monday afternoon we go pay the grave stone for dad and mom goes with me to Wilmington.

Tuesday is Free Chik Fil A day.  Mom and me and Marilou go have a sandwich.  Always such a nice visit.  Also it is Wienerschnitzel anniversary.  I go buy 10 hot dogs, 57 cents each.  Mom and Kurt have a great time eating.  He is helping me in the afternoon with mom after Marilou leaves.

I forget free slurpee at 7/11 on July 11.

July 12 is Kurt birthday.  HE IS NOW 21 !!!!!!!!!!!!  We go to Denny's to eat lunch.

KR comes back on July 13 and we go to church for dinner welcoming the campers back.  He is tired but his foot held out all week.

July 14, I find Vulchi dead in the coop.  She is and was such a lovely bird.  I wonder why she just upped and died.  Maybe old.  RIP  5 May 4, 2011 - July 14, 2018

KR starts baiting the traps for rats and catches THREE the first time he puts traps out.

Sunday night the 15th, we eat at Sushi Boy.

Wednesday July 18, Marilou finally take mom to Tillim for exercise.  First time.  Then to Barlett for lunch.  Mom is feeling better.

July 19, Thursday, Adele, Julie and I went to BJ for lunch celebrating our birthdays.  Adele, July 13, and Julie's is coming up September 17.

We have clinic Thursday night, and then clinic again Saturday all day.

Sunday we go to Curry House on Sepulveda.  Eat way too much.

Monday I work.

All week we work on the serenity garden on the other side of the gate at the YMCA lot.  It is looking so nice.  KR a few weeks ago put 10 bucks of wood chips down and keeping the weeds off and I planted a bunch of tomatoes and some volunteer peppers and vines came up, plus sunflowers, so the area will be looking pretty nice.

This morning, July 27, Friday, Lovely came up from San Diego, and stopped about 6 30 am and picked up cooler, etc and went on their family trip to Pleasanton to stay with Angel Lin, and then will be going up to Mendocino for R & R too.  Will be back next Sunday.  I wish she could have stayed here longer, not just down in San Diego for four weeks.  I think she needed a break from mom, so she didn't even call, maybe once or twice during that time she was down there.  And mom was not her usual self, in pain and all.

Mom is losing more of her memory.  She cannot remember what she did yesterday.  She cannot remember her kids' birthdays.  So strange that she ALWAYS remember Kurt's birthday.  We worked on that yesterday.  She cannot remember Eddie's kids names, and sometimes cannot remember who Alan is.  I wonder how fast her memory will go.  I am sad just thinking about that.  Time marches on and slows for no one.

Lomita Fireworks / Fourth of July

Saturday before Fourth is always the Lomita fireworks, and this year is no exception.  We went to church and got a text from Kurt, Jeff Kaplan dropped off some McDonald coupons, via Adele and we went to Mickey D for McFlurries, then to Lomita for the fireworks.  We parked at the usual place, 242 and Park Haven Lane, and sat at the corner of Eshelman and 242.  GREAT spot.  The fireworks started promptly at 9 and the finale was fabulous this year.

We had a nice walk at the beach on Sunday early evening, 6 30

Monday is always a work day, and it was really busy.

I go rock climbing at the YMCA and my middle finger on the right hand got pretty swollen up.  Also I could not go up #5, only, #3, and #4.  Must do that again next week after my finger heals up.

I make stewed tomatoes with the reject Trader Joe tomatoes that this lady gives away on 147th street in Lawndale.

This morning, the FOURTH, KR and Gracie and I go down and run the race.  I was SO SO SO slow, came in at 31 minutes, the same time that I ran the trail race, and it was getting hot.  The weather has not been too good, til today, now the sun is out.

Kurt went up to Yujin's place for a party last night and spent the night.  He came down about 1 30 and went down to Hermosa Beach with her, we will meet him at the Boyer place where Cameron, et al (Band name Weathers?) is playing.  Mike Gooch ran about a 24?  Chris ran 28?  Leah, don't know.  Not too much good food and too many people.

MOSKIES

I had such a bad night sleep last night.  Somehow, the moskies found me and bit my left hand all to pieces.  I had to get up and slather on anti itch cream and take half a benedryl, and still i thought i heard the moskie.  So this morning I could not get up.

KR went surfing, and I proceeded to get rid of more paperwork.  Just seems like there is no ending.  Then I dropped off a bunch of cassette tapes of Buy Nothing Torrance, by West High.  Came home and bought milk and fried chicken.  Could hardly get Kurt to go out to get smog cert as he was suppose to pay registration in April, hence there is an overdue 94 dollars fine, that he has to pay.  At least he has not gotten a ticket for lapsed registration.  He sort of liked the job at Office Depot, although they are not giving him enough hours, it seems.  He went to give blood too.

KR went to his first PT and stopped at Red Cross and got us tickets to Def Leppard at the Forum in October.

Dr Sata had her office party at her house, and I arrived promptly at 6 pm.  She had wine, food, games.  I have not laughed so hard for I can't remember how long.  She had Dental Pictionary, our team lost.  She had eat an oreo from your forehead, she had get the ping pong balls out of the kleenex box, which I won.  The company was great, and the food was fab.  All kinds of cheeses, pizza, lentil dip, strawberry n cream.  I brought her some eggs and the menudo that Doug's cook had made that he brought down for me.  Doug also took the large bee hive that KR took out of Mike's yard last night.

Red Cross KLOS blood drive

Every year, we go to the blood drive to get free concert tickets and food coupons, etc.  So this year, we made an appt for today, to give blood.  Somehow the lumen of the needle must have been sucked up to the vessel wall and it took forever to get a pint out of me.  The black lady that was on the chair after I was ended up finishing up before I did.  Oh, well.

Kurt had his first day on the job at Office Depot, 12;30 - 5 30  He is going to give blood and we will pick a concert to go to.  I am trying to get more paperwork done, and have started on the pull out office drawer on the table and removed a bunch of stuff.  This is something that really hard to do other than by myself.

Blogging daily is too much of a chore.

End of June already ALSO KURT GOES TO HALF DOME

The last post was May 22, and it is now June 26, more than a month later.  What happened?  What didn't happen.

Kurt has his ride along and he really liked it.  THEN why is he not taking the exam?  Too much smoking dope, etc.....  We had dinner at LaZeez on 5/23 with the Shaw gang.

May 24, Thursday, we go to GoKart World.  It was a cold and dreary day, but they had so much fun.  I rode maybe two rides and took Sandy home.  They stayed and just had a wonderful time riding all the tracks.  I invited Will to come too.

Mars passed away and Kym had his memorial on Friday, May 25, and it was very well attended.  We go to the Farmers Market on the 26th,  Saturday.  Sunday, May 27, father wanted to have lunch with us so I picked El Pollo Inka and we met there with KR, Kurt and the Shaw's of course.

Later on, Wai and Susan and their son came over to visit.

Memorial Day, we had hot dogs at the club house, with the Shaw's.  But Emily had an appt at OCDLA so they couldn't see the boat races.  Tuesday, May 29, we went to Gaetano's for dinner.  The Tuesday Night Family dinner.  It was great food.

Then we went out AGAIN to eat at the Cheesecake Factory May 30, Wednesday.  WOWOW  so much eating out.

Saturday June 2, Ed and I go to the City Yard thing, and we get lots of free stuff, including buckets, seeds, pencils, stickers, etc......  I rode the bike and he ran there.

June 4, Lulu comes over and we cooked and had her over for dinner.  Sandy was not feeling well, so Ed came and then brought food over for her.

Thursday June 7, Kurt gets ready for HALF DOME !!!!  He drives up there and meet the boys, Neel, Daniel, Mathew, and one other kid????  They actually drive in from Pleasanton to Yosemite via Hwy 120 which is to the north of the village.  They go through Cloud Rest, and climbs half dome and he is home by Sunday night, exhausted.  He borrowed the stuff from Seth.

Eddie departs with gang Wednesday, June 13......   sad.............

Sunday the 17 was father's day.  No one sends KR a card.......

Lovely goes to China with Abby and meet up with Pam and Suz and family.

The Wilsons move out and we start working on the house.

Last Saturday, I ran the race.  SBCHC 5K starting at Ernie Hawlett, and the sand and dirt course, I ran in 31 minutes, and came in first in my age group.  Although there were only 4 in my age group 55-59

KR works the clinic and when I got there there were four already, him, Jeff, Steve and Larry.

So Kurt quit Ralph, and Tyler quit Baker's.  Kurt is going to start Office Depot tomorrow and Tyler is working construction.  Will is still living in his car, and going to LA Film School, which I think is a bad school and he is thinking that it is too, as the school does not even have a piano, what is up with that.

We are trying to encourage Kurt to go back to school, and get his AA degree from El Camino.  Do something other than low paying job, and smoking dope and living at home and have no life.

That is all for now.

Meeting the cousin, Dave Bingemann and other events

A lot has happened since our Hawaiian trip.  The day we returned, Adele took me to Eatalian in Gardena, then she took me to see STOMP, at the Pantages theatre.  What a treat.  She didn't tell me we were going, and drove us there, and the show was great.  All kinds of weird music with the most unlikely of all considered instruments.  That was Tuesday, the 24, April.

Then Tyler and Blake with Toby shows up for a visit on April 27, Friday, saying they didn't have a place to stay so they stayed here.  Toby is an unfixed male pit that was trying to hump Gracie.  NO MANNER.  We go to Claudia's for Yappy Hour, and Tyler and Blake and Kurt all come.  It was fun but the weather was too cold.  As a matter of fact, the weather has been too cold all month.

Then Saturday, the 28, we go to Bob V's birthday party at Kuma, the seafood place on Carson.  We meet Steve's girlfriend, Val.  She seems very nice.  Friday, May 4, we go to Sea Lab in Redondo for lunch and learn.  Great fun.  Sunday, KR is in this funny surf contest, sponsored by the Redondo Police Department.  They placed 5th out of 6 therefore not advancing.

May 7 I have jury duty.

Mother's Day, Kurt buys me flowers !!!!!  AND THERE WERE GOLD FISH SWIMMING IN THE VASE !!!!!!!!  And a card.  Will sent a short text.  So did Tyler.

Farmer's Market on May 12.

The office goes to the CDA Convention in Anaheim.  I have not been there for over 15 years.

Will has a flat on Friday, the 18th, and we help him change the tire, well, more like Uncle Eddie helps him.  We then go see the Armed Forces Exhibit at Del Amo.  It was great.  Emi had a great time, and Sandy was very tired.

Saturday, I RUN THE 5K RACE with the time of what I thought was 27 30 turns out online result to be 27 41 which is 8 54 a mile.  NOT bad, hey?   Of course it started to hurt about an hour later.  Eddie ran also, time 24 06.  Michael ran 26 15.  Pretty good, I was trying to catch up all the way, but lagged behind the last mile.

THEN it was HOMELESS dentistry at the POLA boys and girls club.  We left about 2.  Church was with Eddie, that was a treat.

Sunday, father came over.  (5/20/18)  I didn't tell him Eddie was here, and we got Sue's Kitchen food and went over to Grandma's  I told him Dad had passed away in February and that mom was not there, he seems pretty ok, kind of didn't eat much.  He had wanted me to look at his tooth in the front, as something was loose.  #23 was a bit loose but ok for now.  I told him if anything was bothering him to come and let me fix it.  He said ok.

It was really nice having Emi and Sandy see him.  I think Emi should go out and look at his paintings.

Of course I worked on Monday.  They were trying to kill me, the schedule was so packed. Tuesday (today5-22-18) I see Kimel at the office.  Then KR and I drove to Long Beach to meet his second cousin, Dave Bingemann who is 17 years older than KR because his dad was 17 years younger than KR's dad.  The years similarity was a coincidence.  His dad and KR's dad were cousins.  We had lunch at King's Fish House on Broadway.  It was great

Our Hawaiian Vacation

Tuesday morning 4/17/2018 we flew out to Lihue, via Hawaiian Airlines.  No frill, not much food.  Thank goodness I packed a bunch of snacks.  Kurt drove us to the airport at 6 am for our 8 am flight.  There was plenty of guava juice. and Koloa Rum, yum.  We stopped at shrimp station for garlic shrimp.  Too expensive.  THERE ARE CHICKENS ALL OVER THE ISLAND !!!!

I mean everywhere.  At the airport, at the restaurant, on the side of the road, crossing the road......  Since our room was not ready yet, we went out to Kilauea Light house for a look see.  Weather was warm, but road side muddy.  They did have 28 inches of rain in 24 hours on Sunday in Hanalei, and the road to Haena was closed due to land slide.  We saw nene's and Shearwater birds of the Wildlife Refuge at Kilauea Point.  In Princeville, we found Pali Ke Kua condo that we stayed at when we honeymooned here.  After checking out Hideaway, muddy water, we had a shaved ice at Jojo's.

Then if was off to our room at Castle Mokihana, the new name is ISO Kapaa.  We had room 322.  It was third floor walkup, but very nice and 325 is absolutely ocean front, so it was a great ocean view, albeit a very muddy view.

Next morning it was yoga with Kore Ann, then breakkie, continental breakfast in which they ran out of coffee.  We asked for coffee packet, and the mean lady said it was a dollar each.  We were astonished.  Since it was cloudy, we decided to drive to Poipu, and to see the blowhole.  Well they fenced the blow hole in, as I guess people were getting hurt.  We also tried to find where we bought the chicken feet wallet, no go.  We had lunch at Gina Anykine Grinds, and the food was GOOD.  We found sun at McArthur park, a little park by Kekaha.  Then if was off to Waimea Canyon.  We found a little water fall on the side of the red rocks.  The end of the road can see the falls way in the distant.  It was too far to hike, as it was getting late, so we only hiked to the lookout, not to the top of the falls.

Next day, we decided to go hike and ended up at Makauwahi cave.  Well, the cave was not open on Thursday, but we found all these tortoises, as there was a tortoise reserve, and what a find !!!!  Nowhere did we see tortoises being mentioned.  The cave was a lime stone cave.  Off to lunch at Da Crack.  Then to Kauai Coffee Company, where we drank a lot lot of coffee.  On the way back home, we drove by Menehune Fish Pond to Linue.  We saw where they dock the cruise ship, and the Linue Bay.

We decided to go to Princeville, and climbed down the ropes to the beach.  It had rained the day before so it was pretty slippery.  Little did we know that it would be way muddier at Wailua Falls.
We went snorkeling and on the way back we had food at this taco truck by Kapaa, we were going to eat at the Porky Pig but they were not open.  Then we went on a LONG bike ride  The Ke Ala Hele Makalae.  What a great ride, via the hotel bikes.

Jury Duty

So, after so many years of not serving on the jury duty, I got called and today is the first day.  Since I did the online orientation, I "get" to arrive at 9 am.  They were just finishing the video.  The lady tells us all kinds of stuff and 9 40 says we can have a break til 10.  10:05 rolls around and they started calling names to go to the fifth floor.  Mine was not called.

11 comes around

11 30 comes around and they call more names, to go to the second floor.

We file into Judge Amy Carter room 260, department 5.  They start calling your names, and asking if you have ever been a victim of burglary, as the trial is about the burglary and assault with taser.  The guy is black, with short dreads, and I JUST KNOW HE IS GUILTY.

They dismiss us at 12 for lunch to come back at 1 30.

We come back at 1 30 and the lady comes out at 1 35 for roll call, and says she will be right back.

WELL AN HOUR LATER, she comes back and we file back in.

They start asking you your marital status, your spouse occupation, your children occupation, and if you have ever served on a trial.

At 4 30 they have not gotten to me YET !!!!!

So tomorrow I will have to go back, yikes........

Tuesday morning we are asked to show up at 10 30.  I picked up a bottle of Lysol on the way to the office.  Buy Nothing Torrance is GREAT !!!!  I go to office meeting to learn about XDR our new digital imaging system, and they have updated a few things.  I rush back for court, but hey, THEY DONT CALL US TIL 11 15.  I could have stayed at the office training and GET PAID but no.  So they ask  more questions, and more questions.  Lunch is at home, and I go home and get a ride in.

So 1 45 we are suppose to be back and of course THEY DON"T CALL US TIL 2 15.  FINALLY, at    4 45, they dismiss the rest above number 45, and we troop downstairs to get our 'certificate' of completion.  I WAS FINALLY FREED after two days of backaches.

Eddie et al arrived

So we, mostly I, have been getting mom's house ready for Eddie's visit.  The bathrooms were painted, the medicine cabinet changed, the heater fixed, all bedding cleaned.  Kurt was suppose to do the dusting and the general cleaning, and of course, he didn't finish.  When we arrived at the house after picking them up at the airport, with only five minutes wait on their part, Kurt was napping on the back bed, and I was so so mad.

They came over for dinner Sunday.  We cooked salmon, leftover steak, potatoes, salad, pies from Marie C, and today Monday, they had doctor visit, and every day of this week it is one doctor or another.

Tiling and painting

After we returned from Julian, the house was a mess, with new drywall patches everywhere.  KR started to paint and paint and paint....  First it was the downstairs bedroom.  We could not figure out what paint we had used where so we just mixed new colors.  The pumpkin wall is still not painted as we don't have that color and the patch is behind my sewing machine so I said just to leave it.

Then the tiler guy Felipe comes on Saturday and seal the walls with this red stuff that everyone uses and we don't see him for another week.  In the meantime mom's bathroom got started, with new paint, new medicine cabinet and all the fixtures got removed.  I have not decided what to put back so in the mean time I made these funny toilet paper holders that attaches to the shower doors.  I didn't want to put the old toilet paper holder back on they looked so cheesy.  We shall wait til Lovely get here to decide what to put back.

We go to Lowe's to buy the tiles and more paint, and more tiles and more paint.....

Felipe finally comes back and start tiling, then grout, then sealing, then Shawn for the hardware fixture, and KR finished painting the boys' bathroom.  Sort of this light bluish gray color.  Very nice.

Then it is the shower curtains.  I found that the set DIGNITET system from IKEA I liked so I ordered from Amazon, didn't want KR to fight IKEA.  Should have him gone over to IKEA to get.  One set came but the corner single didn't come yet, and it is Sunday, and I am hoping it would come so that we can get the shower finished before we go on our vacation and Kurt can use his own shower.

Kurt has to work EIGHT HOURS today.......   He said, "Do you know I have to work eight hours today?"  I said, "Most people work eight hours every day, five days a week."  He, I am sure didn't want to hear that.  He went to church on the beach, then put in these USB plugs at grandma's and came home, ate a pizza and went to work.  Will get off at 10 30.  Hopefully will just brush teeth and go to bed.

I got in touch with Dr Denise McDermott, and she had a 90 min intake interview with Em.  She likes Dr M and will be seeing Dr Nicole Pickering who has had good success with OCD.

I had lunch with Diane at Guy-Kaku.  It was delicious.  She gave me little presents.  Diane is so thoughtful, and we need to get together more often.

I have been running about a mile or two a day.  The hip seems to be healing.  KR got hit by his surfboard a few days ago.  A very nice contusion and he is limping a bit.  We better be well for our vacation.  I am packing, and the weather is not cooperating, looks like rain everyday.  But hey, will be warm.

Mom moves to Taiwan

On my birthday, we go to Dennys for lunch and then to Sushi Boy for dinner.  Thursday 3-15-18 Lovely flew to Taiwan with mom, and we saw Kristina at the airport.  Marh 17, for St Patrick Day, I went down to the village and ran the 5 K in 30 minutes.  Kurt and KR and Gracie came down to cheer me on but neither wanted to run.

Lovely has been exhausted with Mom in Taiwan.  She now needs so much less sleep and wants to GO GO and GO all the time.  Lovely takes her to knee strengthening classes, singing classes, exercise classes, bible study with the old people, her church every Sunday and food and food and more food.  She does not take a nap, and is speaking up a storm.  In Chinese, of course.  She loves it there and does not want to come back.  So Lovely bought a ticket for July, when they all come back.  Mom will stay with us for three weeks, before Lovely comes back to Torrance from San Diego and then they will all fly back in August, so Alan can be here another three weeks by himself before he flies back.  SO, I WILL SEE MOM for only three weeks out of the year, unless I go there and visit.

Dad Passed Away

WOW, so last post was January 26, when the kid moved home, and now it is February 22, four weeks later, and so much news.  I should have (could have) made notes each day, but my head was too messed up I think.

The kid came home on Thursday, and settled in.  We work the clinic on January 27, Saturday, MMA.  Mom's birthday was 1/31/2018 happens to be Tuesday, and I make reservation to Gaetano's for Tuesday family dinner.  It was so so good.  Gina take them to Denny's for lunch.  She also bought her a cake.  There was a partial lunar eclipse that night, but it was hard to capture on film, although we could see well with just our eyes.  All week I had Kurt take mom out to eat.  So Wednesday was Chik-fil-A, Thursday was In-N-Out burger.  Friday was Maui Chicken.  Sunday we go to Adele's for Super Bowl.  Patriots vs Eagles, and I think Eagles won.  No trophy for Tom Brady.

Monday morning (2-5-18) I dig the grass up front to plant the extra sod Johan? gave us.  Oh, I also went to see Tracy Bailey, the acupuncturist three times that week and felt much much better.  Tuesday morning is office meeting.  That afternoon, on Tuesday, 2-6-2018, Unique calls me at 3:49 and was frantic that dad fell and she could not get him up.  I rush over there with KR and dad is in the bathroom, with Unique behind him, and he had turned a little cyanotic already.  I could not really feel a pulse, and I said "HE IS GONE".

KR and I pick dad up, and place him on the bed.  I was just so paniced, and called mom to come and told her that Dad's heart was having issues and he might die and that she needs to feel him and lie next to him and talk to him and hold him.  I am not sure to this day if he passed before we got there, right there on the bathroom floor or if he passed when he was on the bed.

In any case, MY DAD DIED.

I called Kurt at 4:11 and said to come and see Grandpa.

I called Will to come and see Grandpa

I called the mortuary at 4:24 but they said to call the police first.

I called the police at 4:35

I called Stacy at the VA

First the paramedics came to see that dad was really dead.

Then the police came to take a report

Then the mortuary came to take dad.  They placed flag on his body, and took him away.

Then Lovely and Abby came Thursday night, the 8th of February.  Mom was asleep.  Pam picked her up from the airport.  Gina came back to see dad one last time.

On the 9th, we started going to the cemetery to see what we can do to get the process started.  We found a spot to buy, and arranged to meet Pam Ament Saturday morning to see the spot.

GraveSolutions.com had a space, but we found one through GraveExchange for 8500 big ones.  Summit Lawn.

On Monday we met Pam and Scott and handed over the big money and paid.  Then it was more money for the mortuary services.  Just because mom and dad bought at Rose Hills with guaranteed fees they do not transfer to Green Hills.  Now I have to sell THREE plots at Rose Hills.  Oh man.

On Wednesday the 14th, Ed comes in from AU.  Thursday we have the viewing.  (It is now 4-8-18 Sunday)  I break down when I see dad.  Will and Adeli were also there in addition to all of us family. We go out to eat at LBJ by the cemetery.  Alan's students came back from San Diego and stay another few nights.  KR catches a big halibut and they were amazed.  Friday was the funeral service.  To make a long story short, the funeral home did not get a hold of the VA doctor early enough so the county coroner office can sign off the death certificate, so dad was late to his funeral.  We started at 2 and Lovely officiated.  We go through the whole thing, and the honor guards were waiting for the hearse and after the closing prayer, the hearse pulls and out comes dad's casket.

We then returns to the house for reception.  The church gang, Patty, Mike, Cindy, Tony and Donna were there cooking away, and helping.  We started the reception, and there were prolly 40+ people there, and what a nice reception.

I am trying to remember what happens next.

Since Lovely left, Ed and us went out to eat every day.  We went to Depot, and Classic, and La Zeez Pita, and Ed lefton 2-22-18.

Lovely comes back on 3-3 and packs up Mom and moved her over to Taiwan on 3-16-18

January 26, Friday 2018

Friday waiting for KR to come home from an afternoon with Matthew and his brother and Brian Wagner of Royal Family Kids Klub.

The boy got someone to sublet and came home.  KR drove 13+ hours to get him last Thursday (1/18/18), two days after classes started.  He is suppose to be getting a job, in the meantime working at home and at Popo's to help mom and dad.  So weird that he was here all of 9 months, then went back for four, and now back again.  He was pretty depressed for a bit, and now seems to have nary a worry.  Not applying hard enough to get a job.  He applied to Apple, Fedex, In-N-Out, and Mary Trumble came today for some notary stuff and Courtney works at the county as a inmate intake person, and says the benefits are amazing.  So, I encouraged Kurt to apply.  Wow, the questionnaire, have you taken illegal drugs, have you done this and that.......  PLUS he will have to take a poly....

I got my MRI last Wednesday, and today finally got the result.  NOTHING, nada, nothing wrong mainly a bit of degeneration with the joint of my hip, but so why is my hip hurting so much???  Unable to run, and can hardly move around sometimes......The MRI with contrast is very interesting.  They inject this dye in and then into the MRI you go.  Felt like my head was going to split open.

The day before Kurt came home, Will moved out.  He said our rules were too restrictive.  They are

1  Going to church once a week

2  No eating in his room

3  Keep my car clean when he drives it

Well, he missed church last Sunday, said he overslept, so we said Tuesday morning at 6 15 is ok.  Well, he goes but just sits in the foyer, and we said that is not good enough.

He started hiding the soda cans and food containers in the drawers in his room.  I found three or four soda cans, a wine bottle, and an empty styrofoam container, plus peanut butter jar, and a spoon with peanut butter on it, all stuffed into the drawers.  So Wednesday, he packed up and moved to Pixie's house, right around the corner.  He says he is mad at us for being inflexible, and that we are driving all our relatives away.  oh well

Isaiah and Alan are in Australia.  They just arrived at Ed's and will be touring Canberra.  They had some tickets to the Australian Open.  Isaiah is seeing his girlfriend Sarah, I think in Sydney later this month.  Some of Alan's students will be coming to stay with us for a few days next month.

I am working more and more.  With teledentistry, Megha wants me to cover for her at the clinic.  I am afraid KR is going to get in trouble with me being gone all the time.  Oh, only time well tell.

Dismissed from Cal

Well, it has been almost two weeks since the new year, and I guess I am just not the daily post kind of gal.  Would be good if i remember, or really, just take the time.

So we heard from Kurt that Cal is kicking him out.  Initially I was really upset, because he is probably really upset, then I thought, it is a learning curve.  He has never had a stumbling block worthy of doing anything about it.  This should help him decide if he wants to change everything about him or just hum along and do the same thing.

I spent the whole morning cleaning his room, maybe getting it ready for him, before I heard the news.  He needs to decide if he wants to live there and get a job.  I am sure he can work at Cal Dining, and stay at that apartment til the lease is up, or he can try to sublet and see what happens and come down here.  When and if he comes down, he needs to either get a full time job, or go to school full time, or something.  The most important thing is that he needs to make a complete change.

After the initial frenzy of tidying up, I am slowing down a bit.  We got really mad at Will for not cleaning up the french mess, and he is changing a little.  We had Will's birthday celebration at Benihana on January 3.  The food was good, the alcohol too expensive and the chicken fried rice outstanding.  I still don't know how they do the double egg thing with the bowl.

Saturday, the 6th, Kurt went up to Chadwick to play at the alumni bowl.  He had a great time in the pool.  Rob had a hip replacement and is able to swim and play and he was in the pool with the guys.  Kurt Buckbinder, Matty Galas and a few folks that I remember were there.  We enjoyed the games and KR went surfing before it was over, and Kurt and I had the BBQ lunch after.

My girls are starting to lay, and the other day, I got FOUR EGGS.  This Monday, it started to rain, and it poured for two whole days.  The 101 freeway by Santa Barbara was completely inundated with mud and the freeway was closed and many houses were destroyed and people killed.  First the fire, then the mud slide.

Kurt was suppose to write the letter for readmission, but he waited so long.  Wednesday night I had an epiphany and thought he needs to be up there.  So I told him to buy a ticket and Thursday, KR drove him to Union Station, and he left.  He didn't want to go yet, thinking he can avoid the inevitable.  He said Lilly is still a mess, and he can't stand living there.  I think his letter was so lame, but I didn't say anything.  Tonight he is suppose to get the official notification that he is not returning.  I don't know if he can never go back or just for a semester or two.  They don't want people that don't want to be there.

Especially a Regent Scholar.

Another chapter of the book.  Wonder what it will reveal.
