Thursday, July 16, 2015 Statue of Liberty
After an interesting night sleep, kind of hot, we were up
early and walked to the Hop on Hop off bus, station number 1. As we were pretty early, we were the first
ones at 8 AM. The tickets were 50
dollars each, and we rode down to Battery Park.
It was kind of windy and Will was really cold, so he moved down to the
lower level. I had my jacket with me and
I think him being from Hawaii, was not used to the weather. BUT, it did warm up quick.
We were a bit late for our 9 oclock apt, but it really
didn’t matter what time you boarded as no one checked the time. There was no line, and that was good. Will said he did not sleep all night, as I
was snoring. Every time I woke up, he
seemed to be on the phone, either chatting or watching something. I don’t think it was my snoring. I don’t snore.
He also didn’t like the boat, it rocked a bit and he was
asleep on the ride from Battery Park to Liberty Island. There was lots of people on the boat. We came off the boat, and he wanted to
eat. Later on we found out that he had
dropped his Chase card somewhere soon after, as later on that night he tried to
go out and could not find it.
We walked around the Statue and then took the boat to Ellis
Island. We saw a bit of what the
immigrants must have gone through to come to this country. Will was not too interested. I started to get the idea that it would have
been better had I just dropped him off and not spend the money in this very
expensive city.
Ramada on 30th and Lexington had a free
continental breakfast, which we took each of the two mornings we were
here. Will ate cereal, and I had lots of
coffee and took a bit of food like bananas and bagels. We had room 220, which was small and faced
the alley, with a very load air conditioner, which also did not like the temp
to be set, just went off random to 72.
But it was very convenient to be near the center of everything.
Wednesday night was Time Square. We walked there after the Empire State
Building. There were so many people, it
was amazing. Naked (almost) girls and
everything.
Thursday, after the Lady, it was BIKE TIME, for me. Will wanted to get back and sleep so I
“rented” a Citibike. You pay 10 bucks
and it is rental for 24 hours, and you have to dock it every 30 minutes. I had a great time riding around. That night, we went to ABC Kitchen for dinner
and the food was so wonderful. Thomas MeKenna
got us a bunch of free food.
Friday I rode down to Hudson River Park after
breakfast. Will didn’t want to go, so I
left him. Then I rode over the Brooklyn
Bridge. I came back and Will suggested
we go ice creating, so we went to Chelsea Pier and skated for about an hour. I was TIRED !!!!!! Friday night was the play, The Curious
Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.
It was intense. I was on the hop
on hop off bus and couldn’t make it back on time, so I asked Will to get
himself up to the theatre, and I got off the bus at the theatre district.
Saturday morning we had to move to the Herald Square
Bridge. Went out for an early run, and it started to
POUR, the rain was amazing, with lightning and thunder. I had to stop under the awning at Duncan
Donut til it stopped a bit. Of course
Will was still asleep. I went back on
the bus and then went to United Nation and had a look see. After that it was the NAKED PEOPLE !!!!!
Yup, there were naked people that were being painted, ALL
BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL, or something. Just
an excuse to be naked in New York. I
rode to Queensboro Bridge, but it was HOT HOT HOT and I turned around and came
back only quarter way thru. I shall
return tomorrow to ride the tram.
After breakfast at Friedman’s it was the tram to Roosevelt
Island. I was going to pick up the car
at Avis early, but the Saturday lady screwed me up, so I had to wait til 2 pm
or else the fee would change from 30 bucks to 430. Yup, over 400 dollars. We decided to go to
Coney Island, and with Will’s help, got out there, but there was NO WHERE TO
PARK !!!! We went around and around and
around and finally parked at least ½ mile out and ran to the beach.
The water was warm, and I swam a little. We walked around but alas, no money, we
forgot so we did not get a Coney Island hot dog, rats. Will only got a little wet. There was a band and karoaki and all kinds of
people. The beach was packed. With the help of Will’s GPS, Googlemap, we
drove to Fairbridge Hotel in Highland Falls.
It was late, about 7 30. Will
packed his stuff and gave me a whole bunch of clothes to bring back. He ironed his stuff, and realized that the
new belt he bought in New York at H & M is TOO SMALL. He is still very disorganized. He also bought khaki pants that are too long,
and didn’t bother to get them hemmed. I
didn’t say anything. I forgot, he lost
his Chase card, and had to go to the bank to get another. I loaned him 100 bucks and he is yet to pay
back.
Monday morning came early, and he was awake and in the
shower by the time I got up. He ate some
cinnabon, and waited for me to eat. The
continental breakfast was toast, cereal, coffee, bagels. We left by 7 15. He was rather nervous. We drove up to WP and sat in the auditorium
for a chat. There were lots of cadets
with plenty of parents. One guy had his
whole family, which was mom and dad and 5 siblings !!!! two of which were twin
babies.
